Description

Pixie House, located to the west of Lower Penpethy in Tintagel, is a shop that may have originally been built as a cottage, likely in the late 19th century. The building is constructed of slate stone rubble and features a scantle slate roof. The roof has a semi-conical hipped end on the left and a hipped end on the right, with a gable end above the porch. There is a projecting front lateral stone rubble stack.

The house has a very small one-room plan with an entrance through a gabled porch on the right and a rounded left end. It is a single-storey structure with a picturesque asymmetrical front elevation. The low slate roof features a semi-conical hipped end on the left and an open-fronted gabled porch on the right, which is slightly off-center. A large lateral stack with wide set-offs is positioned at the front, topped with slated weathering. Two narrow window openings flank the stack, with the left-hand window being a half-dormer with a gabled roof. There is also a narrow window opening in the left-hand side wall.

Inside, the fireplace has a segmental arched slate lintel, and the roof features exposed collar rafters. A board inside the porch indicates that this house was traditionally built for the piskies in the 19th century and was formerly inhabited by an old woman.
