Description
Crossways is a house dating from around the mid-18th century. It is constructed from rendered and painted slate stone rubble, topped with a rag slate roof featuring gable ends. The house has a stone rubble stack on the left gable end and a rendered brick stack on the right gable end. The layout is a double depth plan with a central entrance, likely leading to a stair at the rear of the central passage. There are two reception rooms at the front, probably of equal size, and two smaller service rooms at the rear.
An early 19th-century two-storey extension, with a one-room plan, has been added to the left gable end. The house is two storeys high with a symmetrical front featuring a total of three windows. The original front has a central mid-19th-century timber porch supported by thin columns on square bases, with possibly inserted flanking walls and a flat roof that has a moulded cornice. On the ground floor, there are two early 19th-century 16-pane hornless sash windows, and above, two half-gabled dormers with early 19th-century 12 over 8 pane hornless sashes. The 19th-century extension to the left has a small window on the ground floor and a single-light casement above. The front elevation remains unaltered. The interior has not been inspected.
