Description
This building, known as the House opposite Moorgrove, is likely from the 17th century but was remodeled and enlarged in the early 19th century. It features slurried granite rubble that is laid in courses, with quoins, a slate roof, and brick chimneys. The house has a rectangular single-depth plan, consisting of three units, although the first unit is probably an addition. It has two storeys and four bays, with a centrally located doorway that is sheltered by an elegant latticed porch. To the left of the porch, the lintel and jambstones of a former doorway are still visible. The windows are four-pane sashes that are widely spaced, with the left end window on the ground floor being slightly lower than the others. There is a chimney on the ridge at the junction of the first and second bays, and another chimney at the right-hand gable. At the rear, there is a stair-turret that features a tall two-centred arched window with intersecting glazing bars and a hipped roof, while the first bay is gabled. Inside, the ground floor room in the second bay has a large rectangular granite fireplace with a stop-chamfered surround. The drawing room in the third bay has early 19th-century pilastered architraves around the door and both windows, along with matching skirting boards.
