Description

These barns, likely used as granaries and haylofts over stables, date from the mid to late 19th century. They are constructed from granite rubble with granite and brick dressings and feature grouted scantle slate hipped roofs. The overall plan is L-shaped, with a long principal barn that was extended to the right in the late 19th century, and a smaller barn adjoining at right angles in front on the right.

The large original barn has a central threshing floor and opposing first-floor loading and winnowing doorways. The buildings are two storeys high and have largely unaltered elevations, with most original openings still intact. Some openings are topped with shallow brick arches, while others have granite lintels. The doors are ledged and braced, with some possibly being original, and there are 20th-century windows.

The principal barn features a two-window southeast front. There is a former wide wagon doorway, now reduced in width, to the left of the middle, with the original loading doorway above it. Pigeon holes are located under the eaves on either side of the loading doorway. There is an altered opening beneath the left-hand window and an original doorway under the other window, with a likely 20th-century window opening to its right. The later 19th-century addition on the right has an original doorway with a loading doorway above it.

The smaller barn has a symmetrical two-window southwest front with a central doorway and a dormered loading doorway above, along with pigeon holes under the eaves on either side. The ground floor doorways at the far left and right are now partly blocked and fitted with windows. The interior has not been inspected.
