Description
31 and 33 St Michael's Road are a pair of semi-detached council houses built around 1922. They were designed by P. Edwin Stevens and constructed by Percy Williams. The houses are made of quarried granite rubble with granite dressings and feature scantle slate hipped roofs with sprocketted eaves, which sweep down to lower eaves at both ends. The plan consists of two identical but mirror-image houses, arranged in an overall U-shape. Each house has full-depth kitchen/living rooms in the center, with front parlours and rear sculleries at either end. The sculleries extend into short two-storey wings at the back. Each house includes a central lobby and stair. The exterior is two storeys high with unaltered elevations, showcasing an overall four-window front with original doors and windows in their original openings. The panelled doors have small lights at the top, and there are granite hoods on corbels over the doorways. The windows are casement style with glazing bars. The interior has not been inspected.
