Wash House, Waggon House, Stable And Barn Adjoining Tregedna Farmhouse

The building is a wash house, waggon house, stable, and barn, dating from the mid-to-late 19th century, and forming part of Tregedna Farm. It is constructed of killas rubble with granite dressings, and has grouted scantle slate roofs with gable ends and slightly projecting eaves, alongside cast-iron ogee-section gutters. The building has a roughly L-shaped plan, incorporating a cross wing which was formerly a mill, a cart shed, a long barn with loose boxes, and a lower range to the right with stables, a waggon shed (later converted to a trap-house), and a wash house adjoining the gable end of the farmhouse. The plan has seen virtually no alteration. Two threshing floors are present. The exterior displays largely unaltered elevations with most of the original doors, windows, and shutters in their original openings, along with wooden lintels spanning the openings. Visible are the ends of large, roughly-hewn cross beams on the outside of the walls. The south-east front has the former mill and barn on the left, and a lower range of stables, waggon shed, and wash house on the right. The gable end of the mill displays a wide cart shed doorway and a loading/winnowing doorway above. The barn has three ground-floor doorways, with a loading/winnowing doorway above the central one, and two-light shuttered windows above the others. Split ledged and braced doors are used for some openings, with others having slatted ventilators. The stables have a nearly symmetrical front with a doorway and shuttered window above, slightly right of centre, alongside split ledged and braced doors. A wide two-light casement window, partly boarded over, and a smaller two-light casement window are also present. The waggon house features a wide doorway with a through-passage door on the left and a pair of doors on the right, with wooden louvres above the left-hand side. The wash house has an original 18-pane two-light window to the left and a doorway on the right, with a 20th-century window in a rendered wall above. A cobbled pavement runs in front of the barn and stables. The interior remains virtually unaltered, retaining original floors, roof structure, and some fittings.
