MILESTONE (NGR SX0989765564)

The milestone, dating from around 1834, is triangular in shape with two dressed faces and a flat, slightly sloping top. It stands approximately 60 centimeters high. The milestone features large, deeply incised lettering on two faces indicating the distance to Bodmin and Liskeard, although there is slight damage to the front corner. The inscription reads: on the left face, "L 10 1/2"; and on the right face, "B 2'". A later benchmark has been inscribed on the left face above the "L".

This milestone is part of a series erected by the Bodmin Turnpike Trust, which was established by an Act of Parliament in 1769. In 1834, the Trust began improving its route from Bodmin to Liskeard and installed several milestones along the new nine-mile route through the Glyn valley; this milestone is one of a series of eight.

The milestone is listed for its historical significance as one of the milestones erected by the Bodmin Turnpike Trust in 1834, its original location, and its intact condition.
