Description
Glynn Barton Farmhouse, dating from the early 19th century, around 1830, was originally part of the Glynn estate and is now a house. It is constructed of rendered stone rubble with a slate roof, ridge tiles, and gable ends. Brick and rendered shafts are visible on the gable end stacks. The house has a double-depth plan, featuring a central entrance and principal rooms to the front right and left, a central rear stair hall, and shallow service rooms to the rear right and left. A single-story addition of one-room plan is attached to the right, and is heated by a stack at the rear. The symmetrical front facade has three windows and two storeys. The ground floor features a central six-panelled door in a moulded surround, with a fanlight above, and large 16-pane sashes to the right and left. A slate canopy supported by wooden posts covers the entire front. The first floor has a central 16-pane sash, and 12-pane sashes with sidelights to the right and left, all dating from the 19th century. The left side of the house has a four-pane sash at ground floor, and a 12-pane sash at first floor. The attached right-hand addition is a single-story structure with a hipped roof. It features a 16-pane sash and a 20th-century two-light casement to the front, two 20th-century windows to the right side, a door, and a stack at the rear. The rear of the house includes a six-panelled door to the right and 20th-century windows to the left at ground and first floor. A central 20-pane sash window illuminates the stair hall. The interior was not inspected.
