Description
Cabilla Farmhouse is a farmhouse from the early to mid-19th century, with later 19th-century additions and alterations. It is constructed from slatestone and granite rubble, topped with a bitumenised slate roof featuring ridge tiles and gable ends. The building has gable end stacks with brick shafts.
The farmhouse has a large double-depth plan, with principal rooms located at the front on the right and left, the right room being larger. The entrance is through a porch located off-centre to the left, leading to shallow rear service rooms. Attached to the left end is a shorter, lower range, which is heated by an axial stack and may serve as a scullery or bakehouse. A late 19th-century barn is attached to the rear left, featuring a cart shed on the ground floor and a loft above.
The exterior is two storeys high and nearly symmetrical, with a four-window front. All windows are 16-pane sashes from the 19th century, set beneath granite lintels. The ground floor has one window to the left and two to the right, along with a 20th-century glazed porch with a hipped roof and an inner 20th-century door. The lower two-storey range is set back to the left and has a 20th-century door to the right. The right end of the building is blind.
At the rear, the ground floor features a 20th-century porch and door, a 19th-century three-light casement to the right, and two three-light casements to the left, all with granite lintels. The first floor has two 19th-century 16-pane sashes to the left and two 20th-century three-light casements to the right, also with granite lintels. The lower two-storey range to the right includes a 20th-century door and a window above, as well as a stable door and a loading door to the right. The barn projects to the right, with central double doors and additional doors on either side, all featuring granite lintels. The first floor has a wide central loading door, previously covered by a pentice hood, and small windows to the right and left with granite lintels. An external stone stair leads to a loft door on the right side, with a lower addition to the right that has a door at ground level. There is also a single-storey addition at the right end, which includes a door and a window. The interior has not been inspected.
