Description
The Old Schoolhouse is a late 19th-century building that has been converted from a school into a house, with some alterations made in the 20th century. It is constructed from slatestone and granite rubble, featuring granite dressings, and has a slate roof with ridge tiles and gable ends. There is a stack located at the front left corner, which was likely added later.
Originally, the building had a main school hall at the front with a central entrance, and a smaller room at the rear right, creating an L-shaped plan. The rear left of the main hall included a lobby for a rear entrance. The architectural style is Gothic.
The exterior is single-storey and has an asymmetrical front. It features a 20th-century door with a hood mould, one window on the left, and two windows on the right, all of which are 3-light chamfered granite windows with hood moulds and casements. The left end of the building has a large 3-light mullion and transom window in granite, also with a hood mould, while the right end is blind. At the rear, there is a 20th-century window and a half-glazed door. The rear wing has a hipped roof and includes two similar 2-light granite casements with hood moulds, along with a brick stack and a 3-light granite window on the left side. The right gable end of the main range is topped with a weathervane. The interior has not been inspected.
