Description

May House is a house dating from around the mid-19th century, situated in Dolphin Street, Port Isaac. It is constructed of rendered and painted stone rubble, with the rear elevation slate-hung. The roof is slate-covered, with hipped ends and deep overhanging eaves, and features a brick chimney stack on the right-hand hipped end. The house has a double-depth plan, with rooms arranged on either side of a central stair hall.

The symmetrical front facade is three windows wide. The ground floor has two likely late-19th century two-light French windows, flanking a central timber open-gabled porch, containing a 19th-century four-panelled door and a fanlight above. The first floor has three 19th-century sash windows and a stair window.

Inside, a prominent 19th-century open-well staircase features a wreathed and ramped handrail with stick balusters. The house has a significant elevation looking onto the harbour.
