Description
There are two tombchests located 30 meters northwest of the Church of St Merteriana. The first tombchest is for Thomas Avery, who died in 1753, and his wife Sarah, who died in 1752. It is made of slate-stone rubble and has a rectangular slate lid. The outer edge features a marginal inscription in uppercase letters commemorating Thomas Avery, while the inner panel includes an inscription in upper and lower case letters with serifs honoring Sarah Avery. The second tombchest belongs to Robert Langford, a mariner from North Petherwin, Devon, who died in 1767. This chest is also made of slate-stone rubble and has a rectangular slate lid, with the marginal inscription continuing in the inner panel.
