Description
The two Avery memorials, located approximately 23 metres to the north-east of the chancel of the Church of All Saints, date from the early 19th century and are made of sandstone. The chest tomb features a chamfered top slab, which was broken into three pieces at the time of the survey in October 1987. The west end of the tomb has a recessed convex moulded oval panel, surrounded by an inscription and adorned with carved winged cherubs' heads in the spandrels. The inscription in the panel commemorates Mary Avery, the wife of Charles, who died on 23rd June and was buried on 28th June 1826 at the age of 43. The headstone has a moulded raised oval panel, also with carved winged cherubs' heads in the spandrels, and features a well-carved scrolled top with an urn at the centre. The inscription on the headstone is dedicated to Richard Avery, who died on 3rd November and was buried on 7th November 1803, with part of the text written in cursive script.
