Description
Head O'Ditch is a house dating from the early 18th century. It is constructed of painted and rendered stone rubble and has an asbestos slate roof with gable ends. There is a stone rubble axial chimney stack located to the left of the center and a projecting stone rubble chimney stack on the right-hand gable end. The original plan has been altered, but it likely consisted of three rooms with a cross passage and an axial hall chimney stack backing onto the cross passage. The house was extended in the 20th century on the lower left-hand gable end, and there is a small outshut extension to the rear from the late 19th century.
The building is two storeys high and has an asymmetrical four-window front. On the ground floor, there are two 2-light 19th-century casements with glazing bars, along with a 20th-century 2-light casement to the right, which may occupy the position of the original entrance. To the right, there is a timber porch with an asbestos lean-to roof and a 2-light casement adjacent. On the upper floor, there are four 2-light casements. The extension on the left-hand gable end is a 20th-century addition and is not included in the listing. The interior has not been inspected.
