Description

Nos. 1-4 Tamar View is a row of four attached estate houses built in the mid-19th century for the Cotehele estate, with few later alterations. The houses are constructed of slatestone rubble and are slate-hung, topped with a slate roof featuring ridge tiles and gable ends, and two axial stacks with brick shafts.

The layout consists of four attached houses, with the outer pairs having cross wings on the left and right. Each house has a double depth plan, containing one room at the front and one at the rear, sharing axial stacks with back-to-back fireplaces. No. 1, located at the left end, includes a two-storey rear wing with a one-room plan.

The exterior is two storeys high and features a symmetrical five-window front with 19th-century windows. The slate-hung facade has gabled bays that project forward on the right and left. The central three bays are highlighted by a paired gabled open-fronted porch with bargeboards and a finial, which contains two plain doors and two 8-pane casements with segmental heads on either side. The first floor features three gabled dormers with finials, each containing similar 2-light casements. The bays on the right and left have ground floor 2-light casements with segmental heads and gabled porches, each with a plain door. The left side includes a rear wing with a door and a single-storey corrugated iron addition, along with a ground floor 3-light casement and a similar gabled dormer on the first floor. The right side features a gabled dormer with a 2-light casement. The interior has not been inspected.
