Description

Nos. 1-6 East Portholland is a row of six attached houses, built around the mid-19th century, with few later alterations. The houses are constructed from slatestone rubble, featuring banded brick dressings and quoins. They have a hipped roof covered in bitumised slate, with ridge tiles, arranged in two spans, and gable ends over the service rooms at the rear. There are five axial stacks and one stack at the right end, all with brick shafts.

The layout consists of six attached houses, each with a double depth plan and shallow rear service rooms. The end house on the right has two rooms at the front, a large room to the left, and a smaller room to the right, with the entrance positioned off-centre to the right. The other five houses each have one room to the right, with entrances on the left, and all rooms are heated from the axial stacks.

The exterior is two storeys high, featuring a nearly symmetrical seven-window front. On the first floor, there are seven 19th-century 12-pane sash windows with segmental arches in banded brick. The ground floor of the five houses on the left has five doors alternating with five windows, all of which are 19th-century plank doors and 12-pane sashes with segmental arches in banded brick. The end house on the right has two windows on the left and one on the right, with an off-centre door to the right, matching the style of the other houses. The right end of the front range is blind.

At the rear, there is a door at ground floor and a 20th-century window at first floor, both with cambered brick arches. The left end features 19th-century 12-pane sashes at the first floor on both sides. The rear also includes half-glazed doors and 19th-century 9-pane sashes with cambered brick arches at ground floor, while the first floor has 12-pane sashes with cambered brick arches. The interior has not been inspected.
