Description

Farmhouse. It probably dates from the late 17th to early 18th century, with alterations made in the 19th and 20th centuries. The farmhouse is constructed of rendered stone rubble, with a scantle slate roof featuring ridge tiles and gable ends. Brick chimney shafts rise from gable stacks. The original layout was a three-room plan. The main entrance leads to a straight staircase, with a lower room to the right, heated by a stack with a gable. A front lateral passage sits to the left of the entrance, containing a small, unheated room and a parlour at the end, heated by a gable-end stack. The staircase is a later addition to the original passage. A rear projection, now a pantry, extends from the kitchen, and may have once been the location of the original staircase.

The exterior is asymmetrical, presenting a four-window front. All windows are 19th-century 16-pane sashes with cambered arches. A 19th-century cast iron pump is attached to the left of the middle window. A 20th-century half-glazed door, also with a cambered arch, is located second from right. The ends of the house are blank. The rear elevation is of painted stone rubble. The central room has a 20th-century window at ground floor level. A 19th-century 12-pane sash window with a cambered arch illuminates the stairwell, and a small 20th-century window is located below it, relating to the pantry. The rear projection extends through two storeys.

Inside, the end rooms to the right and left have 20th-century fireplaces and are ceiled. The staircase has 18th-century plank and muntin screens on both sides at first-floor level. The rest of the house was not inspected.
