Description

Farmhouse. Dating to circa the 18th century, it has undergone alterations and additions in the mid to late 19th century and some 20th century changes. The building is constructed of slate stone rubble, with a rendered front, and has a slate roof with lead rolls to the ridge and gable ends. A brick-shafted gable stack is on the right end, with another stack featuring a rendered shaft and brick top at the gable end of the front wing. The original plan was a two-room layout, with a single-room wing to the front left, heated by an external gable end stack. A two-storey porch sits in the angle between the main range and the front wing. A later 19th century addition to the left side contains a kitchen and dairy, with an apple store at the rear.

The front elevation is asymmetrical, with one window. It features a 19th century 20-pane sash window at ground and first floor to the right. The two-storey porch has a recessed doorway with a 19th century four-panelled door and a 20th century single window to the left. The front wing, to the left, has an external gable stack. Ground floor to the right of that wing has a 20th century two-light, three-pane casement, and the first floor has a 20th century two-light, nine-pane casement. On the left side, a single-storey kitchen addition has a scantle slate roof and features a 20th century casement window with four panes, a plank stable-type door, and to the left, the roof forms a catslide over the dairy and apple room, with two 20th century two-light, six-pane casements. The end to the left has a shallow gabled wing with a 20th century twelve-pane casement at ground floor and a late 19th century six-pane sash at first floor. The right end is blind, with deep, bracketed eaves. At the rear, a 19th century 16-pane sash window illuminates the staircase, and at ground floor to the right is a two-light, two-pane casement.

Internally, the main range has a central entrance hall with a tight, open-well staircase featuring stick balusters. The room to the right has a 19th century chimney-piece. The room to the left has a 20th century fireplace and a boarded ceiling, with the window having plank shutters. The dairy and apple room have a chute window at the rear for the apple store. At first floor, one room to the rear left has a blocked window with a window seat, which is not visible from the exterior, and a 18th century two-panelled door.
