Description

Tregavarras Cottage is a farmhouse that has been converted into a house. It dates from the early to mid-19th century and has undergone additions and alterations in the 19th and 20th centuries. The building is constructed of rendered stone rubble and features a tiled roof with ridge tiles and gable ends, along with gable end stacks that have brick shafts.

The layout consists of a two-room plan, with a large room on the left and a smaller parlour on the right, separated by a wide passage. In the 19th century, a two-storey outshut was added to the rear of the house, which includes a kitchen on the right side and an unheated dairy on the left.

The exterior of the cottage is two storeys high and has a nearly symmetrical three-window front. On the first floor, there are two 20th-century 16-pane sash windows and a central 12-pane sash window. The ground floor features a central 19th-century four-panelled and glazed door, with a 16-pane sash window to the right and a 12-pane sash window to the left. All openings are topped with cambered arches. The right end of the building is blind, while there is an external stack for the kitchen in the outshut, which has an oven projection at the base. The left end has an external stack in the front range. The left outshut contains a 19th-century two-light six-pane casement window with a cambered arch on both the ground and first floors.

At the rear, the building is not rendered. On the ground floor to the left, there is a 19th-century two-light six-pane casement window with a timber lintel, and on the first floor, there is a 20th-century six-pane sash window with a cambered arch. A 20th-century porch is located at the centre of the rear.

Inside, the entrance passage features a straight stair and a 19th-century panelled partition wall at the first floor. The front rooms on the ground floor have 19th-century ceiling beams, while the fireplaces have been replaced in the 20th century.
