Description
Farmhouse. Dating largely to the 17th century, with a later 17th-century addition and alterations circa the mid-19th century, including a rear service outshut. Further alterations and additions occurred in the 20th century. The house is constructed of stone rubble and cob, with rendered and painted surfaces. It has a slate roof with crested ridge tiles, hipped to the left and right sides, and a gable end to the front wing. There are end stacks to the left and right, and a gable end stack to the front wing, the left-hand one having a shaped top. Originally, the house comprised two rooms with a central passage, likely a through passage, each room heated by an end stack. In the late 17th century, a single-room addition was made to the front right, with a gable end stack. Around the mid-19th century, a two-story outshut was added to the rear, containing an unheated dairy to the left and a kitchen to the right, with a stack on the right side.
The front of the house is asymmetrical, with two windows and the projecting two-story wing to the right. The main range has a late 19th-century six-pane sash window on the left at both ground and first floors, and a 20th-century two-light, two-pane casement window on the right at first floor. A 20th-century glazed porch sits in the angle of the front wing, concealing the entrance to the passage. The front wing has a 20th-century French window and a late 19th-century six-pane sash window on its inner side. The front gable end has a 20th-century window at ground floor and a large external stack. The left side of the house exhibits a straight joint between the main range and the outshut, with a single-light casement window in the dairy wall. A straight joint is also visible under the render on the right side, which is otherwise blind. The rear of the main range shows a 20th-century two-light, three-pane casement window, and a 19th-century two-light, eight-pane casement window with L hinges, at first floor. The outshut has a catslide roof extended from the main roof's pitch, two 20th-century windows at first floor, and a single-story 20th-century addition with a ground-floor window. The interior is not accessible.
