Description
This building is an outbuilding that was formerly a house, located 100 metres west of Davies Farm House in North Tamerton. It dates from around the 17th century or earlier and was extended and remodeled in the 18th century. The structure is built of slate rubble, with the original lower end rendered in cob, and features a corrugated iron roof with gabled ends.
Originally, it likely had a three-room layout with a cross or through passage. The higher end has been largely rebuilt into a two-storey, four-window house with end stacks. The stack at the lower end may have originally been an axial stack that backed onto the cross passage. The building includes 19th and 20th century three-light casements and a central doorway with a panelled door.
On the front wall, there are two reset stones; one is inscribed "W.S." and the other has the date "1516". The lower end features a steeply pitched roof and a three-light chamfered wooden mullion window in the gable end on the ground floor. At the rear, there is a cob wing with a gable end stack and a later outshut in the angle at the lower end. Although the interior was not inspected, it is reported to have a plaster overmantle dated 1662.
