Description
Down Farmhouse is a small farmhouse dating from the late 17th century. It is constructed of rendered stone rubble, possibly with cob, and features a slate roof with gabled ends. The building has a two-cell plan with a third room added at the right-hand or north-east end. It is two storeys high and has a window arrangement of two plus one. The windows are 19th and 20th century casements with one- and two-light designs, and there are plank doors located to the left of the centre, along with a 19th century slate raking roof porch.
There are two large stone rubble chimney stacks: one is situated at the centre ridge, while the other is a kitchen stack with set-offs located at the left-hand or south-west end. A circa 19th century two-storey, one-room extension is present on the right or north-east side, featuring a lower roof level and a brick end stack. The gable wall of a demolished outbuilding remains on the north-east gable end, and there is a later rear outshut. Inside, the roof principals are boxed in at the first-floor room level, but the roof has not been inspected otherwise.
