Description

Lower Penscawn is a house dating from the mid-19th century, with some alterations made in the 20th century. It is constructed from granite rubble, with the front hung with asbestos slate. The slate roof features ridge tiles and gable ends, and there are gable end stacks with brick shafts. The house has a double depth plan, with a central entrance and principal rooms located to the front left and right, along with rear service rooms.

The exterior is two storeys high and has a symmetrical three-window front. All windows are 16-pane sashes from the 19th century. The central entrance features a 20th-century half-glazed door with an overlight, while the left side is blind. On the right side, there is a 16-pane sash window at ground level. Attached to the house are front walls on both sides, made of rubble and about one metre high, topped with cambered granite coping and extending about four metres.

The front of the house is enclosed by a low granite wall with railings that have trefoil heads and columnar stanchions. There are terminal piers with pyramidal caps, and a central pair of plain granite monolith piers supporting a cast iron gate that matches the design of the railings. At each end of the enclosure, there is a pair of plain granite piers with 20th-century cast iron gates. The interior has not been inspected.
