Description

Penmeneth House, located on Penpol Avenue in Hayle, is a house dating from the early 19th century. The front of the house features slate hanging, and it has hipped roofs covered with scantle slate, with brick chimneys positioned over the side walls of the original structure. The building has a double depth plan, with rear rooms partly contained within an integral rear outshut. At the front, there are two equal-sized rooms flanking a central entrance hall, which likely leads to a stair hall situated between the rear rooms.

To the left of the original house is a later 19th-century one-room wide wing that now serves as a garage on the ground floor, while a lean-to is attached on the right side. The house is two stories tall and has a four-window front facing northwest. The original part of the house features a symmetrical three-window arrangement with a central doorway. The entrance includes a six-panel door set within a mid to late 19th-century glazed box porch that has colored marginal panes. The ground floor has original 16-pane hornless sash windows, while the first floor has 20th-century windows. The left side has a hip-fronted one-window bay, and the right side has the lean-to, both adorned with slate hanging, likely added in the mid to late 19th century.

The interior has not been inspected but is expected to retain its original features and joinery. In front of the house, there is a mortar coped rubble garden wall that runs parallel to the building, with a gateway that aligns with the doorway. The gateway features a square-edged dressed granite pointed arched doorway.
