Description
No. 8 is a house, formerly the Bolitho Bank, dating to around the middle of the 19th century. The front is stuccoed and has a gabled scantle slate roof with projecting eaves. Brick chimneys rise above the party walls. The house has a double depth plan, featuring a large reception room at the front on the left and an entrance hall on the right, leading to a stair hall and service rooms at the rear. The two-storey west front has three windows arranged regularly, with a doorway set under the right-hand window. Stucco pilasters flank the front, with tall round-arched panels and an entablature above. An enclosed porch has an eaves entablature and double doors with an overlight. Ground floor window openings have moulded hoods on consoles, while first-floor windows have moulded architraves and contain circa early 20th century 2-pane horned sash windows. The front garden contains low stuccoed walls with hollow chamfered granite copings. Granite piers with cavetto pyramidal heads frame a central gateway.
