Description

The Glade is a house built around the 1840s, located on Hayle Millpond Avenue in Hayle. It features stuccoed walls and a hipped roof made of grouted scantle slate, with wide eaves that have panelled plaster soffits. Brick chimneys are positioned over the side walls. The house has a double-depth plan, with two equal reception rooms at the garden front. There is an axial entrance hall behind the right-hand room that leads to a stair hall behind the left-hand room, and it likely has a large study and kitchen at the rear, along with later wings added to the rear left and right.

The exterior is two stories tall and exhibits similar stucco detailing on each elevation, including granite ashlar plinths, giant Ionic corner columns, window architraves, a first-floor sill band, and an eaves entablature. The east garden front is symmetrical with three windows and features a central blind domed niche with a pedimented architrave and a blind window above. The ground floor has identical projecting bay windows on the left and right, supported by square Doric corner columns, with an entablature above. The windows have 20th-century casements with older 20th-century small-paned top lights, while the other window openings retain original 12-pane hornless sashes.

The north entrance front is slightly asymmetrical, with three windows and a central doorway. It has a distyle Ionic porch, with two windows to the right of the doorway and one to the left, while the first-floor windows on both sides of the entrance are blind. The interior has not been inspected but is likely to retain its original features and joinery.
