Description

Lane End is a house, now divided into flats, dating from the early 19th century. It has stuccoed walls and hipped roofs covered with asbestos slate, featuring projecting eaves and brick chimneys on the side walls. The building has a double depth plan with two equal reception rooms at the garden front. An axial entrance hall is located behind the right-hand room, leading to a stair hall behind the left-hand room, with a probable study behind the entrance hall and a kitchen behind the stair hall. There are 20th-century additions on the left-hand side towards the rear.

The exterior is two stories high, with similar stucco detailing on each elevation. It features granite ashlar plinths, giant clasping corner pilasters adorned with Greek key and anthemion details, and moulded hoods on consoles above the ground floor windows. The east front is symmetrical with three windows and a central blind niche on the ground floor. All windows are original 16-pane hornless sashes. The north entrance front is also symmetrical with three windows and a central doorway within a distyle porch that has brackets supporting the entablature; this porch was originally open but has been infilled in the 20th century. The building has blind windows except for the one above the porch. The interior has not been inspected but likely retains its original internal features and joinery.
