Description
The White House is a house built around 1830-1840, with minor alterations. It is constructed of stuccoed brick and features a hipped slate roof. The house has an L-shaped plan, consisting of two storeys and a cellar, facing south with a rear kitchen wing on the northeast. The design is interesting as it is essentially three-quarters of a double-pile plan house, with chimneys located on the mid-wall and a central staircase in the rear section. The drawing room is on the left and the dining room is on the right, next to the kitchen, with a narrow rear scullery. The symmetrical south front has three windows, a plinth, a floor band, and projecting eaves. The recessed sash windows have six panes each. The monumental stucco door surround is accessed by three moulded steps and features a keystone, impost blocks, and a wide moulded cornice. The entrance includes a six-panel door with a segmental arched fanlight that has circle-and-arrow tracery. Inside, the period features include six-panel moulded doors, reeded architraves with corner blocks and paterae, and reeded marble fire surrounds with bossed corner blocks and a reeded shelf.
