Description

Dane End House is a country house located on Munden Road in Little Munden, dating from the early 19th century, likely built for John Corrie around 1817. The house was extended at the rear in the mid-19th century, with side pavilions added between 1910 and 1912, reportedly designed by Edwin Lutyens. It is constructed of stucco and features hipped slate roofs. Originally, it was a rectangular double-pile house with three storeys and a cellar, five windows wide, facing north. The house has wide bracketed eaves with a plastered soffit and recessed sash windows with 6/6 panes that graduate in height. The central door has a raised margin.

Inside, there are four rooms on each floor, with mid-wall chimneys, a central hall, and a staircase. The mid-19th century includes a bow-fronted dining room and a large drawing room to the south, with a service yard to the east. The tall single-storey pavilions on the east and west sides serve as a library and a larger dining room. A large portico on the north side features paired Ionic columns in antis, likely from the same period as the pavilions. The pavilions have a moulded entablature with a blocking course as a parapet, and each elevation has a projecting centre with tall triple sash windows.
