Description

House. It was probably built in the 18th century, with additions from the early to mid-19th century and some 20th-century alterations. The house is constructed of slatestone rubble, partly covered with rough plaster. It has a thatched roof with gable ends, and brick chimney stacks.

The original plan was of two rooms, the room to the right being slightly larger, with the entrance positioned off-centre to the left. Each room was heated by a gable-end stack. In the early to mid-19th century, two further rooms were added to the rear: one behind the room on the right, and one behind the room on the left. A 20th-century porch was added to the centre of the rear of the house.

The front of the house is asymmetrical, with four windows, and slopes downwards to the right, where the windows are at a slightly lower level. There is a 19th-century four-panelled door under a cambered stone arch. To the left and right of the door are 19th-century 20-pane sash windows, with a cambered stone arch to the left and a timber lintel to the right. The first floor has four early 20th-century two-light eight-pane casements with timber lintels, the two on the right being at a slightly lower level. The right gable end is blank and has a rough plaster finish. The left gable end adjoins the adjacent house.

At the rear are two outshuts built in rubble with slate roofs. The outshut on the left has a 19th-century two-light five-pane casement and a single four-pane casement. The outshut on the right is slightly taller, with a four-pane casement and a two-light four-pane casement. The rear doorway is within a 20th-century porch. The upper level of the house is constructed of cob. The interior is not accessible, but may retain some 18th-century features.
