Description

Lower Penhale Farmhouse is a farmhouse built in the early to mid-19th century, with some later alterations and additions. It is constructed of granite rubble, partly rendered, and features a slurried slate roof with gabled ends and a brick gable end stack on the right. The building has a double depth plan with a central entrance accessed through a porch. The principal rooms are located at the front on the right and left, while smaller service rooms are at the rear. The farmhouse is two storeys high and has three windows, all of which are 2-light casements with eight panes each, characteristic of the 19th century, and feature voussoirs. The central porch is rendered and has a hipped roof, with a six-pane light at the front and a door on the side. To the right, there is an attached 1½ storey lean-to built of rubble from the later 19th century, which is slightly set back and includes a stable door and a corrugated iron roof, along with a 2-light casement on the side. There is also a small single storey lean-to on the left side. The interior has not been inspected.
