Description

Pelyn Tor is a house built around 1800 to 1830, incorporating some earlier materials and featuring 20th-century alterations. The front is made of granite ashlar, while the sides and rear are constructed from rubble, topped with a slate roof that has gable ends and gable end stacks with shaped tops. The roof has an unequal pitch.

The house has a double depth plan, with a central entrance hall leading to a staircase at the rear. There are two main rooms at the front and two shallow service rooms behind, both of which were previously heated. It is two storeys high on a plinth, with a symmetrical front that includes three windows, all of which are replacement 12-pane sashes. The entrance features a wedge-shaped central 20th-century panelled door with a three-pane overlight. The left side has a single-storey 20th-century rubble lean-to, while the right side has no windows. The rear includes two-light casements on both the ground and first floors, with a central two-light casement lighting the staircase and an off-centre door to the left with a granite lintel.

Inside, there are five-panelled doors leading to the front rooms on the right and left, with the room on the right also having a similar cupboard door next to the chimneypiece. A narrow service room at the rear left also features a five-panelled door. The service room at the rear right has a fireplace with a granite lintel and jamb, along with a cloam oven and a remaining potjack. On the first floor, all rooms have five-panelled doors. The roof is said to contain timbers that were reused from an earlier house that was formerly located at the rear.
