Description

Beach Cottage is a house with an attached boundary wall at the rear, dating from the late 18th century to early 19th century, with some 20th-century alterations. It is constructed of rendered stone rubble and features a concrete tiled roof that is hipped to the left and has a gable end to the right. There is an end stack to the left with a rendered shaft, and part of the exterior is slate-hung. The plan consists of a two-room layout, with one room at the front heated by the left end stack and another room at the rear. The house is built over a fish cellar that opens onto the beach. The wall at the rear left encloses a small yard behind the house.

The exterior is two storeys high with an asymmetrical one-window front. On the left side, there is a 19th-century 12-pane sash window on both the ground and first floors, while the right side has a 20th-century half-glazed door and abuts the adjoining house. The left side also features a small ventilator for the cellar. At the rear, the wall is battered at cellar level, with a two-light window with external shutters on the ground floor and a late 19th-century 4-pane sash window on the first floor. The wall enclosing the yard is battered, painted at the lower level, and rendered above. The rear room of the house extends beyond the attached Mermaid Cafe, which forms a two-storey rear wing. The inner side of this wing is slate-hung and has a 20th-century two-light casement window on the ground floor and two late 19th-century 8-pane sash windows on the first floor. The interior has not been inspected.
