Description

Barn Orchard consists of a former iron foundry that has been converted into a pair of houses and an adjoining outbuilding, dating from the mid-19th century. The structure is built from stone rubble with brick dressings and features slate roofs, gabled at the left end and hipped at the right end.

The building comprises two adjoining ranges; the eastern range serves as the outbuilding and has a taller slate roof, while the western range is two storeys high, rising to three storeys in the two westernmost bays. The long façade has five windows on the left and six on the right, with two cart entrances in the eastern range. The westernmost entrance has been blocked off due to the conversion into Barn Orchard Cottage. There are entrances on the front into the outbuilding at the west end, into Barn Orchard Cottage, and another at the east end into Barn Orchard.

The windows in the six-window front are 20-pane horizontal pivot windows from the 20th century. The two second-floor windows of Barn Orchard feature five narrow lights separated by glazing bars. The five-window front has 25-pane lights with a high transom and five panes above the transom. The interior has not been inspected. Originally, this site was Box's iron foundry, which manufactured kitchen ranges and is located adjacent to the Bude Canal and the Marhamchurch incline plane.
