Description
A pair of attached houses, dating from 1845 and designed by RS Pope, located on Richmond Park Road in Clifton, Bristol. The houses are constructed of limestone ashlar with party wall stacks and slate roofs, following a double-depth plan. They are of Neoclassical style, and stand two storeys high with an attic and basement, presenting a two-window range to the front. The symmetrical facade features pedimented wings with banded ground floors, moulded plat bands, sill bands, a frieze, a cornice, and a parapet that sits between the pediments. Doorways in the returns have eared architraves, overlights with glazing bars, and two-panel doors. The tripartite ground-floor windows are framed by consoles and wreaths above the lintels. Upper windows are set within panels between wide pilaster strips; these have eared architraves, first-floor cornices, and an attached balustrade made of half-circles forming lozenges. A stone verandah with square, panelled columns, paired in the middle, connects the balustrades. The windows are primarily 6/6-pane sashes, although attic windows are 3/3-pane. The interior of the buildings has not been inspected.
