Description
No. 2 Richmond Park Road is a house built around 1840, likely designed by R.S. Pope. It features a limestone ashlar exterior, gable-end stacks, and a pantile roof, showcasing an Italianate style. The building has three storeys and a three-window range. On the right side, there is a pedimented wing with wide quoin strips, while the left side has a two-storey parapeted block. The central entrance hall is two storeys high and includes a porch situated in the angle between the two wings, with a plat band and first-floor sill band.
The open single-storey porch has panelled jambs leading to a semicircular arch, and a segmental-arched doorway with an overlight and a two-panel door. The right-hand wing features paired semicircular-arched ground-floor windows with 2/2-pane sashes that include margin panes, a single first-floor window above a wide panel, and a smaller second-floor window. There is also a semicircular-arched window above the door and a left-hand two-light bow window with 4/4-pane sashes that have margin panes. The first-floor windows are 3/6-pane sashes, while the second-floor windows are 3/3-pane sashes. The right-hand elevation has a banded ground floor and mirrors the front wing.
Inside, the house has a central hall with two rooms on each side and a rear dogleg stair featuring turned balusters. The stylistic connections with Pope's Nos. 1-7 across the street support the attribution of this building to him.
