Description

Numbers 13 and 15 are a pair of attached houses built in 1843. They are constructed of limestone ashlar with lateral stacks and a hidden roof. The design follows a double-depth plan and is in a Neoclassical style. The houses are two storeys with an attic and a basement, and have a four-window front. The symmetrical facade incorporates parapeted, two-storey entrance blocks set back, with a party wall on the right side of the centre block. Number 15 occupies the right-hand end and basement. The centre of the house features a banded ground floor, pilasters with moulded tops on a frieze and cornice, and attic pilasters terminating in a moulded coping. Number 13 has steps leading up to a semicircular-arched front doorway, now covered by a 20th-century conservatory, with a window above. Number 15 has a side doorway flanked by 20th-century additions. Windows have segmental heads within shallow segmental-arched recesses, featuring 6/6-pane sashes. A first-floor cast-iron balcony is situated at the centre. The interior of Number 13 contains a stair hall with a side staircase featuring turned balusters and a curtail, a marble fireplace with attached columns in the rear right-hand room, panelled shutters, six-panel doors, and cornices. Attached to the front are basement area piers, railings, and a single-leaf front entrance gate. The property has group value due to its contribution to the surrounding Clifton area.
