GV II

Attached house. Dated 1711. Limestone ashlar with brick gable stacks and a concrete tiled roof. Double-depth plan. Early Georgian style. 2 storeys, attic and basement; 4-window range. Regular fenestration with the doorway second from the right, rusticated pilaster strips, plat band, cornice returned at the ends, and a coped parapet with rectangular panels over the windows. Good doorcase has a Tuscan porch with columns, entablature blocks and wide segmental pediment, a good late C18 rectangular batswing fanlight and 6-panel door. Raised surrounds to 6/6-pane sashes. 2 dormers with casements. Projecting basement area has a rubble front wall with a right-hand hatch and steps through. INTERIOR converted into flats, with consequent alterations and no features of interest noted. SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: attached front area wrought-iron railings and gates with urn finials. Matching window surrounds to No.48 (qv). A fine early Georgian house.
