Description
43 and 45 Ashley Road are a pair of attached houses built around 1820, located in Montpelier, Bristol. They are constructed from limestone ashlar and feature a slate mansard roof with brick stacks, as well as a wrought-iron verandah. The houses are designed in a late Georgian style and have a double-depth plan. They stand three storeys high, with a basement and attic, and have a four-window range. The exterior includes a cornice and parapet, with steps leading up to round-arched doorways. These doorways are flanked by long, fluted consoles supporting the cornices, and feature moulded architraves with leaded 20th-century fanlights above six-panel doors. The ground-floor French windows are set within blind round arches that are linked by impost bands, and the full-width verandah has a curved roof and plate-glass sashes. Inside, there is a central lateral staircase, plaster hall cornices, and panelled shutters.
