Description

Number 18 is an attached house dating from around 1780, located on Sion Hill in Clifton, Bristol. The building is constructed of limestone ashlar and render, featuring party wall stacks and a slate mansard roof. It has a double-depth plan and is designed in a mid-Georgian style, standing three storeys high with an attic and basement, and a two-window range.

The façade includes pilaster strips and a rusticated ground floor, topped with a moulded cornice and parapet. The right-hand semicircular-arched doorway features raised jambs, a bracketed open pediment, a batswing fanlight, and a six-panel door, with the upper four panels raised and having cut-out corners. The ground-floor windows are paired 4/4-pane horned sashes with incised voussoirs, while above them, there are five stepped voussoirs leading to 6/6-pane sashes. The second floor has a 4/8-pane sash on the left and a 3/6-pane sash on the right, both in exposed frames, and there is a single dormer above.

A first-floor balcony is supported by cast-iron brackets and features wrought-iron railings with pointed arches and quatrefoils. At the rear, there is a full-height canted bay. The interior has not been inspected. The property also includes subsidiary features such as attached wrought-iron spear-headed front area gates and railings with urn finials and capped corner piers. Number 18 is part of a linked terrace with Numbers 16 and 17.
