Description
A pair of attached houses dating to circa 1780, located on Sion Hill in Clifton, Bristol. The houses are built of stucco and render with limestone dressings, featuring party wall stacks and a slate roof. They are arranged with a double-depth plan, in a Late Georgian style. Each house stands three storeys high, with an attic and basement, and has a two-window facade. The pair exhibit a near-symmetrical design, incorporating pilaster strips extending to a cornice and parapet. The 19th-century porches are constructed of banded ashlar, with chamfered corners and cornices. The semicircular arched doorcases have raised surrounds with imposts; the fanlight above the door of No.23 is made of metal with 5 panes, while No.22 has plate glass. The doors are six-panelled, with flush bottom panels. The windows are largely 6/6-pane sashes, with a first-floor French window in No.23, and 8/8-pane sashes in No.22, with two dormers on No.23 and one on No.22. A first-floor balcony is present, supported by cast-iron brackets and featuring wrought-iron railings with pointed arches and quatrefoils. The interior was not inspected. Attached to the property are wrought-iron basement area gates and railings comprised of spear-headed designs.
