Description

Number 19 is a double-depth plan house dated 1786, built in the mid-Georgian style as an infill within an almost-complete terrace. The exterior is limestone ashlar and render, featuring party wall stacks and a mansard roof. The house is three storeys, plus attic and basement, with a three-window front. The facade is almost symmetrical, with a left-hand pilaster and a rusticated ground floor. The centre features a semicircular-arched doorway with raised jambs, a bracketed open pediment, a batswing fanlight, and a six-panel door with raised panels to the upper four. Incised voussoirs decorate the ground floor, stepped above to the centre windows which are set to the right and contain horned plate-glass sashes in exposed frames. Inside, the large entrance hall has a dogleg front staircase with an uncut string, stick balusters, column newels, and a ramped rail. Other interior features include panelled reveals to four-panel doors, panelled shutters, marble fire surrounds, and a cornice frieze with patera and lion heads. Attached to the front are wrought-iron spear-headed area gates and railings with urn finials, and capped corner piers.
