Description

Number 20 is a house dating from around 1780 in Clifton, Bristol. It is built of rendered walls with limestone details, including party wall stacks, and has a 20th-century slate mansard roof. The house has a double-depth plan and a Late Georgian style, arranged over three storeys, an attic, and a basement, with a three-window front. The façade is nearly symmetrical, featuring a rusticated pilaster strip to a cornice and parapet on the left. A doorway with a semicircular arch has panelled pilaster jambs, an entablature, consoles supporting an open pediment, a plate-glass fanlight, and a six-panel door. Timber bays, two-storey and three-light, flank the entrance, with 8/8-pane sashes and cornices on the ground floor, 4/4-pane sashes flanking the doorway, and 4/8-pane sashes on the second floor, above the doorway. First-floor windows are 6/6-pane, and second-floor windows are 3/6-pane. There are three 20th-century dormer windows in the roof. The interior has not been inspected. Attached to the house are wrought-iron gates and railings for the basement area, featuring spear-headed details and urn finials.
