Description
138-142 (even) York Road is a three-storey brick building with limestone dressings and a pantile roof, featuring a double depth plan for each unit. The exterior is characterized by strip pilasters leading up to a cornice and parapet, with one window range per building. Each unit has a right-hand semi-circular arched doorway topped with an open pediment supported by small brackets and moulded imposts, along with panelled doors and fanlights. Some windows have segmental heads with three stepped voussoirs, although the sashes at 138 and 140 have been replaced with plastic versions that fit the original openings. A plaque on no 142 indicates that it was built in 1823 and claims that this unit retains most of its original interior fixtures and fittings, though the interior was not inspected.
