Description
A terrace of seven houses, numbers 86 to 98 (even), built around 1820 in Bristol. The houses are constructed with limestone ashlar facing, rubble to the rear, with brick party wall stacks and a pantile roof. They are designed with a double-depth plan and are in a late Georgian style. Each house is three storeys high with a basement, and has a single window range per floor. Pilaster strips extend up to the cornice and parapet at the party walls, and there are steps leading down to the basement area. The right-hand doorways have semicircular arches, a flat reeded canopy, thin pilasters on either side with small impost blocks, six-panelled doors, and fanlights. The ground-floor windows are plain, 8/8-pane sashes, while the second-floor windows are 3/6-pane sashes. The rear elevations are three storeys in height. The interior of number 98 features a glazed hall door, reeded dado and architraves with corner roundels, fireplace surrounds, and a straight staircase with plain column newels and stick balusters. Original area railings and gates remain, along with a coal hole in the pavement. The terrace was built along the New Cut, constructed in 1809.
