Description
The Close, located at No 17 on Footners Lane in Burton, is a building that likely originated as a row of late 18th century to early 19th century structures. It has undergone alterations in the late 19th century and more recently. The building features a gable end facing the street, with red brick and grey headers on the rear and end walls. The main facade is roughcast, topped with a tiled roof that combines 19th century banded fish scale and plain tiles, complete with cresting. The structure is 1½ storeys tall and includes five dormers. There are five early 19th century casement windows and a door that has a tiled hood supported by brackets, along with an additional door. This building is significant in the street scene at the entrance to Burton Green. No 17 and its street boundary wall are part of a group with Holywell Cottage located opposite.
