Description

This is a pair of properties, 15 and 16 Dafford’s Buildings, forming part of an informal terrace in Larkhall. The buildings likely began as a single house, probably divided into two dwellings in the late 19th century. Construction probably occurred in the early 19th century.

The buildings are constructed of limestone ashlar with Welsh slate roofs. Originally a five-bay house with a central entrance, it was divided into two properties, one with two bays and the other with three. The layout features a double-depth plan with two parallel ranges and a rear range which may have been added when the house was divided.

Number 15 is three storeys high, while Number 16 is two storeys high. A first-floor platband and sill band run across the front. Number 15 has a doorway on the left-hand side, featuring a six-panel door with a radiating fanlight above, set within a plain arched reveal. Above the doorway is a plain sash window. To the right is a two-storey canted bay with French doors in the centre of the ground floor and otherwise plain sashes. The second floor has a central four-pane sash window, topped by a plain parapet which obscures much of the 'M' shaped roof. A shared ashlar stack is located to the right. Number 16 has two plain sash windows on each floor, and a doorway has been added in the further bay to the left of the ground floor. The rear elevation is not visible. The interiors have not been inspected.
