Description

Dafford's Buildings comprises three houses at numbers 8, 9, and 10 on Larkhall, dating from the late 18th or early 19th century; they were first rated in the street in 1794. The houses are built of painted Bath limestone ashlar with Welsh slate roofs and form an informal terrace, with each property stepped slightly upwards.

Number 8 has six/six sash windows in plain surrounds, and the first-floor windows are fitted with wrought iron grilles. The front door is a six-panel design with a small, flat-roofed hood supported by brackets. A cornice string runs along the facade, topped by a parapet. The mansard roof features two dormers, one single with a top-hinged light to the left, and a triple dormer to the right with a central top-hinged light, both being modern additions with small panes. A shared ashlar and rendered stack rises from the left side of the ridge.

Number 9 is similar to number 8, but its ground-floor windows are two/two sashes and the first-floor windows are plain with dropped sills. The dormers are a single plain sash and a paired plain sash. Shared ashlar and rendered stacks are located at each end of the ridge, although only some chimney pots survive. Number 10 mirrors number 9, but with two Victorian flat-topped, three-light dormers. Shared stacks with chimney pots are positioned at either end of the ridge. The rear elevation is not visible. The interiors have not been inspected.
