Description
A row of four houses dating from the early 19th century. The houses are constructed of limestone ashlar with Welsh slate roofs, coped verges and stone stacks. The row consists of a three-storey, two-window central block, forming numbers 18 and 19, with two-storey side bays at numbers 17 and 20. Number 17 features a four-panelled door and plate glass sashes on the ground and first floor, along with a sill band, eaves band and a moulded cornice to a plain parapet. Numbers 18 and 19 have stone porches with shallow pediments; number 18 has a 20th-century door and a steel casement, while number 19 features a four-panelled door and 16-pane sash windows, complemented by sill and lintel bands to the two first-floor 16-pane sashes. The second floor of numbers 18 and 19 also has sill bands to two sashes, eaves band and a moulded cornice to a plain parapet. Number 20 is similar to number 17, with a four-panelled door and 16-pane sashes on the ground and first floor. The rear elevation has 12-pane and 20-pane sashes, arranged over three floors including a basement to the central bays, while the side bays have two floors over a basement. Lean-to extensions are also present at the rear. Plain cast-iron spearhead railings are attached to the front, with one gate being retained at number 18. The design emphasises a symmetrical arrangement, with the central bays given greater prominence through the use of stone porches and an additional storey.
