Description
No 36 is a semi-detached cottage dating from the 17th and 18th centuries. It is constructed of rubble stone with a Bridgwater tiled roof and stone stacks. The entrance is positioned at a right angle to the road. The cottage is two storeys high and features three windows. There is a gabled porch with a four-panelled door, and to the left, there are two-light and three-light recessed chamfered mullioned casements with hoodmoulds. To the right, there is a three-light mullioned casement, and a 20th-century conservatory is attached to this side.
On the first floor, there are two-light and two three-light mullioned casements with hoodmoulds; the left-hand bay is an addition, likely from the 18th century, and is part of No 33. The right return has a 20th-century addition with two single-light casements featuring hoodmoulds on the first floor. At the rear, there is a lean-to addition with a blocked doorway and 20th-century attic dormers.
Inside, the cottage showcases good 18th-century joinery, including doors with two fielded panels and H-L hinges, as well as a deep chamfered beam on the ground floor. The rear lean-to contains a plain chamfered Tudor-arched fireplace with a 19th-century cast-iron range, which is now used as a bathroom.
